I got this wireless meat thermometer set to replace a wireless thermometer of a well-known brand that died after several years of regular use. This set comes with two separate thermometers, so if you have somebody who wants medium-rare and some savage who wants well-done, you can accommodate both. In terms of construction, this is very similar to that well-known name brand, with one major difference being that the base station charges via USB-C, whereas the name brand required batteries in the base. It also has the advantage of connecting the base to your home Wi-Fi network, allowing you to monitor it from any room without worrying about losing a Bluetooth signal. The app walked through the process, and initial Wi-Fi setup took about 2 minutes.
One thing that sets it apart from that name brand model is that you can actually monitor it from the base station without needing to use the app, although you do lose the ability to hear it in other rooms. The display on the magnetic base station is very clear and easy to read. In the attached picture, it looks like the temperature is 13 degrees; this is because the display flickers on camera, but the actual temperature was 130 degrees with the 0 not visible in the photo. Figuring out which button does what took a little bit of guesswork; mostly because I am a man who does not use manuals. For my testing, all of my cooking was done in the oven with the magnetic base station attached to the refrigerator about 5 feet away, and the connection held up fine.
Unlike that name brand, this does not just measure temperature at the tip, but across 5 points along the shaft plus an ambient temperature reading from the exposed end. When using this, it is very important to make sure it is inserted all the way to the line etched near the top. Unlike the temperature sensor at the exposed end, the temperature sensors along the shaft can be damaged by the ambient temperatures of your oven. In addition to cooking meats, I used it for baking bread, where getting the internal temperature right is essential. Because of the probe's thickness, it did leave about a 3/16" circular hole in the end of the loaf. The price for this two-pack is less than that name brand's price for just one probe, making this a great value.
Positives:
? Dual-probe setup accommodates different cooking preferences simultaneously
? USB-C rechargeable base station connects to home Wi-Fi
? Clear standalone base display allows monitoring without opening the app
? Multi-point shaft sensing plus ambient temperature monitoring
? Great value compared to single-probe name-brand alternatives
Negatives:
